2021 IS 1 DAY AWAY!!! ??

That obviously means it’s a new year, and as we all know New Year’s Day is flooded with New Year’s Resolutions. And unless you’ve been living under a rock most of your life, you also know that sadly, those resolutions usually lead to more failures than successes.

So I have an alternate suggestion! ? Don’t make resolutions... set goals! And when you do, make those goals are realistic and SMART:

Specific
Measurable
Attainable
Relevant
Time-based

To me, the underlying theme of a resolution has always been to fix something that is broken. I like to take a different spin because there is nothing about you that is “wrong” or “broken”. So rather than fixing something that’s broken, instead look at things you’d like to have in place in your life, then set goals that will help you get there.

Below are my Top 5 tips to help you get started and stay motivated to achieve any goal:

1️⃣ START SMALL!
Think baby steps... you have to crawl before you walk, and eventually run

2️⃣ PROGRESS, not perfection!
Don’t fall into the trap of thinking everything needs to perfect or it’s not worth the effort. Every tiny step forward matters.

3️⃣ TAKE ACTION!
Something is always better than nothing. Just like #2, don’t give up on a goal because the actions don’t look like you thought they would. Adjust, adapt and keep going.

4️⃣ GET HELP!
Accountability in any form is sure to help you stay true to your goals and focused on action. Get a friend involved, join a group or hire a professional. Whatever form it takes, being held to account makes taking actions easier

5️⃣ PAY ATTENTION!
Especially to the tiny wins. If you don’t track your progress, you’ll miss your progress. We get too focused on the end result, missing the little victories along the way, then give up thinking we’re failing. Stay focused on that goal, but keep your eye on the details as well.

We’ve all had a tough year and I know most people I’ve spoken with are looking to 2021 with hope and optimism. We can’t be certain things will greatly improve right off the bat, but we CAN ensure that WE improve. It’s the only variable that we actually can control. This year was FILLED with reasons and excuses “not to”. Taking action felt futile and in some cases, impossible. For this next year, the only way to ensure things get better is to bust through those reasons and excuses and (to quote Nike) JUST DO IT!

Here's to a bright and shiny New Year and all it can bring! ?
